Zoomer: David Cross – Bigger and Blackerer

“Zoomer” is just my excuse to review something quickly without having to try to be entertaining or keep it well written. These are just my thoughts on stuff without all the bullshit corporate shit!!!!!

There is no reason for that sentence.

For those of you who know and enjoy David Cross: Bigger and Blackerer is funnier than It’s Not Funny but not quite as good as Shut Up, You Fucking Baby!.

David Cross’ humor takes a little time to get into, or at least it did for me. A friend of mine recommended him to me a long time ago so I listened to Shut Up, You Fucking Baby! and thought it was decent but nothing special. I thought his impressions went on way too long and a lot of the stuff he talked about was boring. Then I watched an episode of Mr. Show (a television show on HBO David helped create) and fell in love. The show is fucking amazing and is still one of my favorites. After that I went back and listened to Cross’ album and almost lost my mind how funny it was. I don’t know if I was just in a better mood for it or what but it hit me just right and still makes me laugh like a retard. David Cross is, probably by a good margin, my favorite comedian of all time.

Cross likes to tell a story with his comedy, it can take a while to get to the “meat” of it but while you are getting there he keeps the laughs coming. They all aren’t stories though, he breaks them up by asking simple questions or half a sentence where you go “oh shit he’s going to say something stupid” and they you are still blown away by what he says. Some of the stuff gives you the kind of laugh where you have to try and tone it down in public to not look like such an asshole. He deals with religion, politics and other such goofy things (ie he’s a comedian).

Bigger and Blackerer is funny, the only thing you really need to know. If you like David Cross it’s a no brainer, you can tell he has matured and refined his game and the album is pretty much exactly what you have been waiting for all these years. If you are new to Cross give it a shot, this album isn’t too out there that I can’t pretty much guarantee that you will probably giggle or chortle even a little tiny bit once or twice perhaps.

Most Listened To – April 2010

I love music but it is so easy to get into your own little island. You find a few artists you like and you stick with them, it’s understandable. Everyone does it. It’s a shitty way to be though, I like hamburgers but I still like trying other things. It’s hard with music though, there is so much garbage out there you can step out in any direction and find yourself drowning in shit. You need somebody whose taste you kind-of-sort-of-maybe respect a little bit to show you something new. Hopefully I can maybe be that kind of sort of person.

Most Listened To – March 2010

Like many of you I love listening to music but hate the radio, so it’s easy to just fall into the trap of only following a handful of bands or genres. The only new music I ever seem to pick up is recommended to me by people with similar tastes or just stuff that get’s a good review. So I thought I’d share with you a few of the songs I played the hell out of this past month to hopefully introduce you to something new to check out. If not, at least you can laugh at the garbage I listen to.

Gorillaz – Plastic Beach

Gorillaz continue to get better and better after every album yet have peaked long ago. Their first album “Gorillaz” is good but there are a lot of shit songs I just don’t give a fuck about. Clint Eastwood however is one of my favourite songs ever and could very well be the one I’ve listened to the most in my life. Everything about it I love and find myself coming back to it time and time again. The rest, even the decent songs, I never bother with unless I’m looking for something different.

Bomb the Music Industry! – Scrambles

Scrambles!!!!!!!

When it comes to music I’m a really shithead. I love being that one asshole, that cocksucker that rambles off a list of bands that no one else has heard of. I sit back and go “yeah, unlike you shitheads, I know REAL music” while everyone questions why they ever invite me anywhere. I know it’s an awful way to be but I just can’t help myself. Bomb The Music Industry! (BtMI) is one of those bands that not many listen to, but instead of being a dick, I actively try and get people into them. A band this good shouldn’t be obscure enough to give you that smug sense of musical superiority. While not the album I would give to people who don’t really dig this kind of music (I feel “Get Warmer” is much friendlier) Scrambles is the bands best album to date.
